Caminha sits where the Minho river meets the Atlantic, looking straight across the water at Spain, with the wooded hill of Monte Santa Tegra rising on the far bank. The town has a compact historic centre a little inland, and the beach at Camarido lies behind a pine forest on the sandy point. The river mouth is a well-known windsurfing and kitesurfing spot.
