Évora sits on the open Alentejo plain, far from any sea breeze, and has one of the hottest, driest summers in Portugal. July and August afternoons typically reach 33–35 °C and pass 40 °C during heat waves, but the air is dry and the nights compensate: after sunset the plain radiates its heat away fast, and mornings often start fifteen degrees cooler than the previous afternoon.
From June to September rain is a rare event. The roughly 600 mm that falls in a year arrives almost entirely between October and April, in Atlantic spells that turn the plain green for the winter. Winter days are cool rather than cold, around 13–14 °C, though clear calm nights bring frost a few times each season.

Averages for 2016–2025, based on ERA5 historical data from Open-Meteo. A rainy day is one with at least 1 mm of precipitation.
Typical July and August afternoons reach 33–35 °C, and heat waves push beyond 40 °C. The saving graces are the dry air and the cool nights, which usually drop below 20 °C even after the hottest days.
Days stay mild at around 13–14 °C, but clear nights on the plain cool sharply and frost appears a few times each winter. Snow is a genuine rarity.
May, June, September and October offer warm sunny days without the extreme afternoon heat. In midsummer, plan the walking for the morning and follow the locals into the shade after lunch.
