Castelo do Neiva is a quiet parish on the coast just south of Viana do Castelo, with a small fishing beach and the wider sands of Amorosa a short way north. There is no resort here, only a village, a few restaurants and a long stretch of dune-backed coast that stays empty even in August. People come for the space rather than the facilities.

Summers are moderate at 20–24 °C, with grey mornings that usually clear and a northerly wind after lunch. Winter is mild at 13–15 °C with regular rain. The sea is cold, holding around 15–17 °C through summer, because upwelling on the Minho coast runs at full strength for most of the season.
